About

Welcome to Give Us This Day Our PB&J!

I’m so glad you stopped by. I hope you’ve brought your appetite, because this is a blog dedicated to serving soul food. Here, you will literally find nourishment for your heart and spirit. New menu items are added weekly, but the main ingredient is always the same.

The main ingredient here is Jesus, and he is our PB&J.

Jesus is a lot like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. No really, I’m serious. It’s a shame, too, because all too often we treat Jesus like a formal meal at a gourmet restaurant. Sometimes we relax a little and think of him more as a get-together with fiends at our favorite diner. But Jesus is our Bread of Life (see John 6:35), or, in modern speak, Jesus is our PB&J.

Think about it, this ooey-gooey standby of a sandwich. Not formal or stiff, this is sustenance for the body and soul. You can grab it and take it with you when you’re on the go. It fills you up and gets you through the day when you only have 30 seconds to fix a meal. It comforts you and reminds you of days when a loving parent made you lunch, took care of all your needs, and made you feel special just for being you.

That’s Jesus. He’s something you can take with you wherever you go. He’s there to nourish you in the deepest recesses of your soul. He can fill you up and renew your strength so you can get through another day.

This blog is dedicated to a loving God who gives us this day our daily bread, or, as I like to put it, our PB&J.

Me and my mother’s dog, Andy

As for me, my name is Audrey Cunningham. I’m just a simple honest gal living a crazy life in rural Pennsylvania. Once upon a time (which actually wasn’t that long ago, come to think of it), I gave up a career to take care of my disabled mom. It wasn’t an easy decision, but I don’t regret my choice (see Getting Paid for details).

My mom is the most amazing and loving woman in the world, and she’s worth fighting for. What’s more, over these past few years, I’ve grown far closer to my heavenly Father than I ever would have otherwise. Through all the emotional turmoil and medical chaos, I’ve witnessed the truth of the first chapter of the Gospel of John.

God’s light shines in the darkness, and the darkness cannot overcome it.

My career may be on hold for the moment, but through all these crazy life experiences, I’ve learned a thing or two. In the process, I’ve also gained a few stories to share. They’re stories about how we are each loved by an awesome God, a God who died to be there for us in real and tangible ways when the going gets tough.

I hope these stories will nourish you and strengthen you on your own journey. If you’d like, you can sign up over on the right sidebar to receive email updates of new post as they become available. It’s my “delivery” food service to you (and don’t worry, there’s no SPAM. This is a junk food free zone 😉 ). We all need hope, we all need encouragement, and we all need Jesus to be our PB&J.

God bless you, and thanks for reading.

  1. I love how connected Jesus to PPJ’s. You have an awesome view of things.
I always thought of Jesus more like a friend that you ‘d invite over for tea than someone you’d have over for a special dinner I love this.
Somewhere on here…..I’ve been all over, I commented about this being a food blog. At that time I was still expecting recipes .
Yet, This is better. You are feeding our souls through Jesus.
I am in Blogging 101 with you.
You have one of the best blogs I have seen.
Easy to read. Easy to navigate.
